How Well Do You Know Your Children’s Medicine?

However, because there are so many long and complicated drugs, you may not apprehend what your child is having and why.

Fluticasone is a steroid used in many different drugs. Depending on the combination, it can be prescribed as nasal spray, cream, and ointment. You can use it to treat asthma, eczema, and allergies.


Ibuprofen is an NSAID (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) used to treat fever, pain, and inflammation. You may already have ibuprofen for children in your medicine cabinet. Montelukast sodium / Singulair

Singulair is used to treat asthma and relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies. It is a drug called a leukotriene inhibitor. You can use these drugs to prevent or reduce the body’s response to allergens. Even though it can be used as a generic drug, it is often called Singulair.


Prednisone is a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are a type of drug that decreases inflammation in the body. Prednisone is used to treat asthma attacks, side effects, and allergic reactions to ivy and the like. It is usually prescribed in small doses within a short period.


Nystatin is an antifungal drug used to treat infections caused by fungi (such as yeast). You can take it orally to treat oral diseases such as thrush. It also has topical forms such as creams, ointments, and powders, which can treat skin conditions such as diaper rash.
